Event Photography & Videography — Consent & Usage Guide
1. Overview
THAN Artistic Photography & Videography may capture photos and video at events for:
- Documenting the event
- Highlighting participants
- Creating visual content for clients
- Sharing on websites and social platforms
- Supporting promotional materials
This guide explains how consent, privacy, and usage are handled during event coverage.
2. Consent Principles
Implicit Consent
At public or semi-public events, photography is generally expected. By entering an event space where photography is visibly taking place, attendees are considered to have implicit consent to appear in general event coverage, unless they choose to opt out.
Opt-Out Option
Any attendee may opt out at any time by notifying:
- The THAN photographer
- Event staff
- A designated organizer
If an individual opts out, they will not be intentionally photographed. On request, any existing images of them will be removed where reasonably possible.
3. Types of Consent
A. General Event Coverage (No Forms Required)
General coverage does not require written consent. This includes:
- Wide shots of the room or venue
- Candid group moments
- People appearing naturally in the background
- General documentation of the event
Individuals who are not the main subject and appear only in the background do not require explicit consent.
B. Featured Subjects (Direct Consent)
When a person is the primary subject of a photo or video, consent is confirmed by:
- Verbal agreement
- Posing for the camera
- Clear interaction with the photographer
C. Commercial Use (Explicit Consent)
If an identifiable individual is used in commercial or promotional materials, such as:
- Paid advertisements
- Printed marketing (posters, brochures, banners)
- Website headers and promotional landing pages
- Commercial video content
THAN Artistic Photography & Videography will obtain explicit verbal or written consent from that individual before use. Background individuals do not require separate consent.
4. Ethical Standards
The photographer will:
- Avoid photographing individuals who appear uncomfortable
- Avoid posting or delivering clearly unflattering images
- Respect body language, personal space, and verbal requests
- Remove images upon request where reasonably possible
- Use discretion when subjects or context are ambiguous
5. Attendee Notice
For transparency, events photographed by THAN Artistic Photography & Videography may display the following notice at the entrance or registration area:
6. General Photography Policy
- Display a clear notice when photography or video coverage is active.
- Treat attendance as implicit consent for general event documentation.

- Remove images on request where reasonably possible.
- Obtain explicit consent for commercial or promotional use of identifiable subjects.
- Use discretion to avoid unflattering or unwanted photos.
